works greatMy husband sweats a lot and was having trouble keeping his hearing aids dry. He was told to buy a dryer for them. The dr's office wanted over $100. for one. We decided to check on Amazon.com. This not only dries the hearing aids but freshens them also. When he went back to the Dr's office and told them he had this brand of dryer, they were pleased and told him that it is a great product. If you are in the market to buying a hearing aide dryer I would recommend the Serene Innovations Renew.5A great way to dry the aidsI like this much better than the bottle of beads or the other type of drying bottle. No mess, works silently, and holds the batteries on the magnet while it works. I was concerned that magnetizing the batteries was a bad idea, but I've not had any problems. I like the battery tester to make sure I won't have dead batteries while I'm out. Does it dry the aids like it should. There's no way to tell but my aids still work after using it for several months. And, I couldn't tell if the bottles worked either. I live in Austin, TX. I chuckled when the audiologist said when I got the aids to not get them wet. I thought that just walking outside in the Austin humidity will get them wet from all the sweating we do here. And they are a nice place to store them when not in use.5So far, it's looking good!I have been wearing hearing aids since my early 30's and now, with it being almost 30 years later, I've been through a number of aids. The drier I used was like many people used - the desiccant device that one periodically heats in an oven. I thought it was about time to try something new, especially now that I am getting new digital aids.I had heard about the electric driers but thought they were kind of pricey from my original audiologist (who just retired). I found the Serene model on Amazon and the features, reviews, and price were right on the mark. I actually received the drier before my new aids were ready. I have had the new aids and this drier for about 1-1/2 weeks so I don't have a great deal of experience with either. I will say it is very easy to use, appears to be a solid, well-built device, and operates as designed. There are a couple of features which are nice but I probably will never use them. That is, there is a battery magnet to hold the batteries should you wish to remove these from your aids while they are in the drier. I see no point in this as opening the battery case is what is needed to turn off my aids. Perhaps, some other aids need this. The other feature is the battery tester. Aside from not having the aids work being a pretty good indicator a battery change is needed, my aids actually talk to me and tell me I have a "low battery." So, I don't see much use for that feature, either.I checked with my new audiologist and mentioned that I purchased the Serene drier. She gave it high marks and told me they sell the same unit at her practice (although she did not mention the price). I think that's a pretty good recommendation. Now, I will say for traveling, I do keep the standard desiccant container available. At home, I use the drier and UV light on a nightly basis. I would suggest cleaning the aids before putting them in the unit. In that way, they are ready to go the next morning and also would be completely dry from any aid cleaning cloth you might use.In a nutshell, I like the unit and I believe it will help keep my new aids working longer. I'm very pleased with the unit and its performance.5Not effective as a dryer, does not disinfect eitherI really wanted to like this product, it is small, arrived quickly, quiet when turned on. However, it does not do what it's supposed to do. My child gets frequent ear infections, he has ear tubes so his ears drain a lot. His hearing aids (BTE) and ear molds constantly get droplets of moisture which are visible. I usually would wash his ear molds, use the "air blower" to get rid of most of the moisture in the tubes, dry them using a cloth, and put them in a drying jar with his hearing aids, with those pink/peach-colored drying capsules overnight. I decided to try using this dryer instead, and even on the 8-hour setting and using the UV-light refresher, his ear molds would still have some moisture in them after the drying process. As I could not see inside his hearing aids, I wonder if the dryer was doing anything at all for the aids.Very disappointed as I was really rooting for this system to work. Also, I checked the batteries daily using the battery checker. The batteries read "5 indicators" in the morning, but when my child came home from school his hearing aids were dead. Could have been faulty batteries I thought, so I tried with another set of used batteries, still read "5 indicator lights", but when I used a different battery checker the reading was "slight used".One last thing, I read the manual and the UV light is 400 nm. That is UV-A (wavelength used in tanning salons), and is not germicidal. I'm not sure what it does (tried to research on how it could help with condensation, came up with nothing factual), but I guess that it why it is called a "dryer and refresher", and not a disinfectant.Unfortunately, item cannot be returned, I reached out to Amazon, and they issued a refund, thankfully! Now in search for a dryer that works!2Well-designed dry box with ux light, tooI purchased this dry box for my dad to use with his hearing aids. This is the first dry box either of us has used as the VA does not apparently recommend them on a regular basis. While I don't have a way to objectively measure the performance of the dry box, its thoughtful design has impressed both of us -- enough that dad is actually using the thing, which is win enough for me! The included instructions are clearly written in type that is large enough to read without getting out the magnifying glass. For joy! Here are some other things that I found notable about this dry box: * The interior compartment is large and requires no finesse. Set your hearing aids in anywhere * Dry hearing aids with battery compartment open and batteries in -- or remove batteries * There is a magnetic panel on the upper right to store removed batteries * The integrated battery tester has an easy to read display * The integrated battery tester does not require a precise fitting of the battery -- easy even with my arthritis * Simple to use: choose low, regular, and high humidity and leave that setting there * Just two main buttons -- UV light (press to start one-hour cycle) and Start (to start drying)Why I Chose Electronic v. Chemical Dry Box (Skip this if you already have decided -- I had a lot to learn!)I chose this electronic dry box instead of one that uses a chemical drying element after a lot of research and consideration of my dad's lifestyle. Dad is not one to fuss with details -- or notice things like the chemical dry box needing a replacement dry bar. And although the boxes that didn't require power were cheaper at the outset, depending on how many replacements they would need, whatever we would save would quickly be spent. Finally, in the case of this particular dry box, there is that one hour UV light cycle. UV light is supposed to kill fungus (among other things) and that is the infection that took us back to the ENT for the zillionth time anyway. While I don't know about the ins and outs of this particular kind of UV light, I figure it can't hurt.If off-grid living is important to you, a dry box that isn't powered might be a better choice. The AC adapter on the Serene box is quite small, but that doesn't help you much if you're, say, camping in an undeveloped area!At this point, there are only two things I would improve about the Serene air dry box. I like that the cover of the box is easy to open, but it is almost too easy to open. A slightly tighter fit would feel more secure in the suitcase and such. Second, it would be fantastic to find a place to stash a battery remover stick. With larger hands these do help so much in removing the batteries, but my dad will rarely go to the trouble of grabbing one. If it was right there in front of him in the dry box, he might.Do I recommend this item? Yes. So far we have had no problems with this unit, and it has exceeded our expectations. Is it giftable? Hmm. You know, why not? If someone really needed this, I think it would be welcome.5Review of ReNew Hearing Aid Dry BoxGreat device. Works well and is simple and easy to use. I live in a hot humid climate and work outside. I was having a problem with moisture building up in my hearing aids. This unit resolved my problem. I put my hearing aids in the unit at night when I go to bed and remove them in the morning. Since I have been using this unit , I have had no more moisture problems.5Probably the best solution, albeit not perfect.Looks like a quality device. For everyone's information, it reaches 129 degrees F with the lid closed after several hours (with a 76 degree ambient). The heat within the chamber is NOT uniform. It varies from 129 to 105 degrees depending upon where it is measured. A bit warmer than I'dchoose if there was a choice. I may elect to prop the lid up a bit or engineer a potentiometer or resistor in the heater circuit. Only maybe. The 'battery tester" is very optimistic. It shows a working battery after the battery is not within working voltage range. I also question the legitimacy of the LED UV claims-but that's no big deal. It does what I want it to do, and there's no desiccant bag or container to screw with. I would prefer the "low/normal/high" function would be temperature modulated NOT time. I'd prefer a long "soak" at a lower (selectable) temperature rather than "cook 'em on high" for 8 hours.UPDATE: The 'battery tester' DOES work OK. One must hold the battery in place for a few secondsfor the correct reading. I expected instant results-not happenin'....gots to wait just a bit..Living in this central Florida swamp I consider something like this a good investment for my new $4K hearing aids.5Big claims, small performance. It's tough to review a product like this, where you really can't tell if it's doing its job or not.First, there is no fan. It's a simple warming tray. While this undoubtedly creates a certain amount of airflow I doubt it is enough to really dry the hearing aids by air movement. The heat likely AIDS in drying as well, but enough? Who knows...There are two small UV LED's in two corners, I don't believe for a second that they do anything significant to "disinfect".The battery tester is completely useless. Mine shows batteries half full after I remove them from dead hearing aids.I'm giving this two stars because the heat MIGHT help dry the aids, but the rest is pure B.S. and puffery.2Helped with itching from hearing aidsI have one hearing aid, with a rubber tip that rest inside the ear canal. after having it for about a month, realized the area where the rubber tip enters my ear became itchy and i was constantly messing with the wire, tip and my ear. Did some reading and found this item. It is just big enough to no be obtrusive on my night stand. It has adjustability depending on humidity levels, which comes in handy when you live in an area where the humidity changes with the season. It has reduced and for the most part stopped the itchy feeling i would get. My audiologist told me it was a good purchase and the only things she advised was to remove the battery when in use as sometimes it can wreak havoc on the battery which in turn could make the hearing aid have random issues. I place the hearing aids in at night when i go to bed so they are ready when i get up the next day. I would recommend them for anyone with HA's as anything that can help them last longer is a good thing!5BEST DEHUMIDIFIER FOR ME!!!LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this hearing aid dehumidifier. I had the old huge Dry and store dehumidifier for my hearing aids and from the day I got it, I had to keep opening and shutting the door to even get it to work for me. The dessicant blocks which I had to buy for it were another nuisance to keep stocked up on and change. Everynight I would be opening and closing the drawer on it to even get it up started which was annoying. Finally I was ready to replace it and went online and found this RENEW box and cannot say enough good about it. NO bothersome drawer to worry about making proper connections and no dessicant material. It uses a UV light and works beautifully with three different settings on it which are timed and accurate. There is even a small battery checker on it. It is very small and so much easier and less bothersome to use. I am just delighted with this and so wish I had found this sooner. My old box was over $ 100 when I bought it over 10 years ago and this one is a little more than half the price and fits on my night stand so much better. I can't say enough good about this product. I have not had it long enough to evaluate it on its longevity, but from the other reviews I am confident it will hold up. Already it has surpassed the old one and just another little annoyance removed from bedtime.5
