What is Cascara: Cascara is a coffee cherry tea, made from the dried berries of the coffee plant that is filled natural sugars, vitamins, oils, and anti-oxidants that come from the skin and pulp of the cherry. Served cold brewed or hot (recipes below) Eco-friendly: Normally coffee cherries are considered a by-product of the coffee-making process and are either discarded as waste or used as compost. Lightly Caffeinated. Sourced from sustainable, ecologically responsible producers Tasting notes: Sweet, fruity taste with notes of rose hip, hibiscus, cherry, red current, and mango. Producer: Hacienda Sonora Farmers: Alberto and Diego Guardia Process: Dried on beds for 18-22 days and then finished with 42 days in coffee cellar Variety: Catuai Region: Hacienda Sonora, Costa Rica Altitude: 1,200 meters About Blue House Coffee Roasters: We are a small coffee roastery located the Garfield Historic district of downtown Phoenix, AZ. We source and roast our own coffees. The Farm: Hacienda Sonora is located in the Central Valley of Costa Rica, at the foot of the world renowned, Poas Volcano. The average altitude is 1,200 m (or 3,900 ft) above sea level. The coffee grows in an environment surrounded by exotic trees and other vegetation, providing a great condition for quality, as well as improving the chemistry of the already naturally rich volcanic soil. Our Process: Our cascara obtained from the dry-processed (also known as natural processed) coffee collected from the farm. In this process, the ripe coffee is dried on beds for 18-22 days and then finished with 42 days in coffee cellar. Then the cascara is separated, inspected, cleaned and packaged from the coffee bean. Instructions: Hot Brew: 1.) Add 10oz of 200F water to 3 heaping tablespoons of Cascara. 2.) Steep for 6 minutes and enjoy! Iced Cascara Tea: 1.)Use six tablespoons of tea for every 10 ounces of cold water. 2.) Place tea in water and let stand in the fridge for 24 hours. 3.) Strain and enjoy!
